Shelf Life

Properly stored THC gummies maintain their potency and freshness for 6-12 months after production. Most products include a "best by" date on the packaging.

The gummies themselves may remain safe to consume for up to 2 years, but cannabinoid potency gradually decreases over time. THC slowly converts to CBN (a milder cannabinoid) through oxidation, so older gummies may feel less potent.

Ideal Storage Conditions

  • Temperature: Store at room temperature (60-70°F / 15-21°C). Avoid heat above 80°F, which can melt gummies and accelerate cannabinoid degradation.
  • Light: Keep in a dark place. UV light breaks down THC into CBN, reducing potency over time.
  • Humidity: Low humidity is best. Moisture can promote mold growth and cause gummies to become sticky or dissolve.
  • Air exposure: Keep the container sealed. Oxygen accelerates THC oxidation.

The best location? A cool, dark cabinet or drawer — away from stoves, windows, and bathroom humidity.

Can You Freeze THC Gummies?

Yes, freezing can extend shelf life to 12-18+ months. Wrap the container in an airtight bag to prevent freezer burn and moisture absorption. Allow gummies to come to room temperature before eating — frozen gummies are very hard and could damage your teeth.

One caveat: repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade quality faster than consistent cool storage. If you freeze, take out only what you plan to consume.

Signs Your Gummies Have Gone Bad

  • Texture changes: Gummies that are excessively hard, sticky, or slimy have degraded.
  • Discoloration: Significant color changes suggest oxidation or mold.
  • Off odor or taste: Any sour, musty, or chemical smell means they should be discarded.
  • Visible mold: Any fuzzy growth or spots — throw them out immediately.
  • Reduced effects: If your usual dose seems weaker, THC may have degraded to CBN.

When in doubt, err on the side of caution and replace them with a fresh batch.
